Let’s add another coffee cocktail to the list, and one with only three ingredients at that! The Revolver is a caffeinated twist on the classic Manhattan, created by San Francisco bartender Jon Santer in the early 2000s. It first appeared at Bruno’s before Santer took the drink with him to Bourbon & Branch, the acclaimed cocktail bar.
Rather than reaching for a bottle of sweet vermouth, à la Manhattan, Santer introduces a bit of coffee liqueur to give the cocktail body and a hint of sweetness. A couple dashes of orange bitters round out the drink, lending a subtle citrus brightness to that dark and mysterious duo of Bourbon and Coffee Liqueur.
Add this drink to an early brunch, or impress your date with this dark citrusy goodness
Here’s what you need to make The Revolver:
– 2 oz Bourbon
– 1/2 oz Coffee Liqueur (I’m using up my trusty @kahlua )
– 2 dashes Orange Bitters
– Garnish: Flamed Orange Peel
Now here’s how to make it…
Add Bourbon, Coffee Liqueur, and Orange Bitters to a mixing glass filled with ice, and stir until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass (I used a coupe glass). Flame an orange peel over the top of the drink to express its oils, then garnish with the peel.
