from the amazing book, Tequila Mockingbird by Tim Federle
Okay, okay, I hear you! Let’s break away from all the sweet drinks and make something tart!
Named after the award winning book, movie, and musical, The Color Purple, this recipe is actually for a fancy shot. The book suggests to double the shot recipe and invite your sister over, which makes perfect sense to invite my bar bestie Emily (@onwednesdayswemakedrinks) since she also made this cocktail on her page (check it out!) ✨
The recipe calls for blackberry liqueur but you can definitely use Chambord as a substitute, which is a black raspberry liqueur. The Chambord is a bit lighter in color compared to using an actual blackberry liqueur, but really, any highly concentrated berry liqueur would work. Emily made a great point to even try out a berry syrup for a sweeter and lower ABV drink.
The below recipe is for a cocktail, cut in half for a shot — except for the Light Rum, I upped the rum by .5 oz for my taste
Here’s what you need to make your The Cooler Purple
- 1 oz Blackberry Liqueur (I used @Chambord)
- 1.5 oz Light Rum
- 1 oz Peach Schnapps
- 1 oz Lemon Juice
- Garnish with a beautiful dehydrated pineapple slice
Now here’s how to make it…
Shake the ingredients with ice and strain into a shot glass (if making a shot) or strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice (if making a cocktail)
